Wilton woman organizes ice cream fundraiser for ovarian cancer research

Joyce Casertino from Wilton is hoping ice cream will help raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

A woman from Saratoga County is hoping ice cream will help raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

Joyce Casertino of Wilton was blindsided by a cancer diagnosis in 2019. Much of her time since has involved surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

When she finished her last treatment, Casertino wanted to get ice cream, and then she had the idea to use ice cream to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. So Saturday, she’s inviting people to Gavin Park in Wilton for an “ice cream run.” It’s a fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.

“Ovarian cancer affects so many women,” Casertino said. “I don’t think ovarian cancer gets the attention that it deserves, and it’s often caught too late.”

The ice cream event for Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance is this Saturday, Sept. 14, from noon to 3 p.m. at Gavin Park in Wilton. The first 100 people to register will get tickets for free ice cream from Farmer’s Daughter, Dairy Haus, Ben & Jerry’s and Stewart’s Shops.
