It was created to help marginalized communities during the pandemic.
The 5-1-8 Free Store was started out of Shalonda Faircloth’s basement.
Now it will be located on Liberty Street in Schenectady.
The store has primarily operated by making deliveries – but hopes to transition to an appointment based system, so people can come to the store and take what they need.
The 5-1-8 store provides everything from food to household goods.
A grant from the New York State Department of Health helped Faircloth open up a physical location.
The 5-1-8 Free Store is always accepting donations.
