A new salon is open in Malta.

LaLume on Route 9 was once home to a Stewart’s Shops.

Owner Shannon Ramirez spent over $1 million to buy and renovate the building. The store was completely gutted down to the studs and new electrical and plumbing systems.

The design features counter tops, lighted mirrors and wood floors. It was inspired by owner Shannon Ramirez’s Cuban heritage.

“I wanted to bring in the arches and things to bring my heritage into town, but also still have it look like it belongs in Malta,” she said.

Ramriez’s business had outgrown her old salon in downtown Saratoga Springs and she wanted to invest in another place in Saratoga County, she said.

LaLume features both independent artists and commission stylists providing luxury custom hair services. It focuses on custom color, haircuts and extensions.
