New SPAC president seeks to boost programming

The New Saratoga Performing Arts Center president seeks to boost programming.

There’s a new president of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, but he is not new to the organization.

“I love SPAC. It’s an amazing place,” said Christopher Shiley.

Shiley has part of the SPAC leadership for more than seven years, most recently as Senior Vice President of Artistic Planning.

“I was really zeroed in squarely on the on the programming of SPAC, but I think in that role, I’ve often been working with other departments as it relates to the operations of the venue and how those impact the programming,” he said.

Shiley will now oversee SPAC’s programming and day-to-day operations in alignment with the organization’s goals for the future. This will involve working with each department collaboratively to make sure that the organization is functioning the way it needs to.

Shiley moved to the area seven years ago for the opportunity to work at the premiere venue.

It’s obviously beautiful,” he said. “You have these world-class performers from New York City Ballet, Philadelphia Orchestra. But of course, all the acts that we’re bringing through with LiveNation are great partners – the Saratoga Jazz Festival, 48 years of history there.”

Shiley believes strongly in the power of cultural arts and classical programming, he said, and he’s excited to continue those efforts in the community he now calls home.

“I love downtown Saratoga. I love the community that I’m a part of, so I’m excited in this role to not only continue to do everything that we’re doing here in terms of expanding our programming and reaching the community in new ways, but to also continue my efforts in the community of Saratoga Springs,” he said.
