Woman and puppy killed in crash

Woman and puppy killed in crash on East Greenbush.

A 72-year-old woman and an 8-week-old puppy have died after a crash in East Greenbush on Tuesday.

Irene D. Pearl, of Pleasant Valley, was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling east on I-90 near Exit 9 around 12:50 p.m.

The vehicle veered off the right shoulder, struck a tree and overturned, State Police said. The vehicle came to rest in the woods along the highway.

Pearl was pronounced dead at the scene. The puppy was taken to the East Greenbush Animal Hospital, where it died from its injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
