Zoom Flume water park in East Durham has been accused by New York state of violating child labor laws.

The park has been ordered to pay just over $38,000 to the Department of Labor after an investigation found the park employed 35 15-year-old lifeguards at the top of elevated, power-driven water slides between July 2021 and July 2022. That’s just over $1,000 per worker.

Zoom Flume is appealing the decision.
