Cat goes missing after large fire

"Fluffy" went missing after a large fire Wednesday in Voorheesville.

An 8-year-old hairless cat went missing following a large fire Wednesday.

The cat goes by “Fluff” or “Fluffy,” and has been nowhere to be found.

A large fire broke out at the home on Krystal Lane in Voorheesville Wednesday afternoon. The Voorheesville Fire Department responded to the scene and put the fire out in about 45 minutes.

However, the flames left the home destroyed.

“My guitars are destroyed. My, my everything,” the homeowner said.

The homeowner’s name is Eric Erkkinen. Eric, a former member of the U.S. Navy, said he lost everything in the fire and is urging the local community to keep an eye out for his cat.

“He’s like a person, you know, like a family member, like my best friend,” Eric said.

Firefighters said they did not find a cat while at the scene. Eric said he has been going through the home looking through the ash to see if he can find Fluff’s remains.

“I’ve been with a, a pitchfork just, you know, carefully digging through everything to try to find his remains. You know, if he’s there, he’s there, you know, and I just kind of want that closure more than anything. if he is gone, you know,” Eric said. “You know, there’s a little bit of hope because I haven’t found him yet, and that means a lot.”

The American Red Cross provided aid to Eric with his family putting up a Go Fund Me page that has already raised over $8,000.

The Voorheesville Fire Department said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but Eric believes the fire started as a result of a charging lithium polymer battery.
