Although it’s still April, The Rockettes dance company is already auditioning dancers for this year’s Christmas Spectacular show.

This year 1,145 dancers are auditioning, which Julie Branam, the choreographer and director of Christmas Spectacular, says is a record since she started with the dance company in the 1980s.

Rockettes Dance Captain Danelle Morgan says they don’t know yet how many open spots there will be. A total of 80 dancers in the cast. Last year, 700 dancers auditioned and 18 of those dancers were hired.

The dancers lined up early in front of Radio City Music Hall on Thursday for the auditions. Once inside, choreographers taught the dancers a 32-beat routine, which they had to only moments to memorize and then dance in front of the judges.

The “2023 Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes” will open to the public in November.
