Glens Falls Police are alerting the public of a scam making the rounds on social media that claims one of their officers is missing.
Glens Falls Police are alerting the public of a scam making the rounds on social media that claims one of their officers is missing.
The post says that “Carolyn Lynch” has gone missing, and they are seeking assistance in finding her. It says that her vehicle was discovered with her daughter inside, but Lynch was not with her. It also claims that she may need medical attention.
Glens Falls Police said that she is not an officer of their department, and she is also not missing. She is a real officer with a California agency.
The Better Business Bureau said the post is designed to be shared, and then the scammers change it to a deceptive ad or a survey. The goal is to get people to click on a link and reveal personal information such as phone numbers or email.
