Soares blasts mayor for crime policies: ‘Just don’t do anything.’

Albany County District Attorney David Soares blasted Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, saying her policies are preventing police from being proactive.

Soares picked up the endorsement of several labor and law enforcement unions. At a rally on Monday, he had harsh words for Sheehan, who has endorsed her opponent, defense attorney Lee Kindlon, in the Democratic primary on June 25.

“The only thing that I would ask this mayor to do from this point on and regardless of her political intentions is just not do anything else to further jeopardize what we’ve built in this city before she came into office. Just don’t do anything else,” Soares said.

Kindlon issued a response to Soares’ rally:

“David Soares can’t run on his record; he’s out of ideas and almost out of time. He can’t compete with my decades of experience in the criminal justice system and my work with both sides to see that justice is done in every case,” Kindlon said in a statement. “I support law enforcement, and I’ll be in the courtroom with our Assistant District Attorneys to fight the highest violent crime rate in the state. Nothing is more important than getting the job done and I look forward to working hand in hand with law enforcement to bring real results to the people of Albany County.”
