Tedisco, Ashby win new terms
Republican Sen. Jim Tedisco defeated Saratoga Springs Finance Commissioner Minita Sanghvi, a Democrat, to win another term in the 44th Senate District.
With 93% of the precincts reporting, Tedisco had 58% compared with 42%.
The district represents Saratoga County, Niskayuna and the city of Schenectady.
Sagnhvi was born and raised in India and became the first person of color and first openly gay member of the council. Tedisco has been senator since 2017.
Tedisco said he stuck to the issues, his accomplishments and avoided personal attacks.
“The public doesn’t want that anymore. They’ve had enough of it. I’ve had enough of it,” he said.
Republican Sen. Jake Ashby turned back a challenge from Alvin Gamble in the battle for the 43rd Senate District, which covers all of Rensselaer County and parts of Washington and Albany counties.
Ashy had 55% of the vote compared with 45% for Gamble with 95% of the votes counted.
