Students are heading back to the classroom in the Greater Amsterdam School District. Pre-K, kindergarten, sixth graders, and ninth graders were back in the classroom Wednesday morning. Everyone else will return to school on Tuesday.
The district recently posted on Facebook that it was looking to hire more substitute teachers, teacher’s aides, or clerical workers.
According to the district’s Facebook page, “The district recently increased its substitute rates to be more competitive in the region. Being a substitute teacher, teacher’s aide, or clerical is the chance to work with students and staff and make a difference in the community. Substitute positions also offer a variety of opportunities for advancement.”
The substitute rates are below:
Retired NYS Certified Teacher: $75,829 (full-year vacancy)
Retired NYS Certified Teachers: $187 daily rate
BA/BS Degree: $167 daily rate
AS/AAS Degree: $152 daily rate
Meantime, there are a few new things in the district this school year, including a state-of-the-art distance learning lab and new adaptive playgrounds. CDTA buses are also making a return to ensure students have reliable transportation options to and from school.
Also new this year, the district installed new rooftop units to enhance indoor air quality.
As for staffing, the district employs about 340 teachers, in addition to librarians, guidance counselors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and more.
