Nearly a dozen local students have earned medals at a state competition.

Several Capital Region BOCES students earned medals at the New York state SkillsUSA competition this month, including some students who won state championships.

The students won the medals competing against more than 3,000 other students in workplace skills competitions, ranging from welding and nursing to cooking and machining.

The three-day competition took place at the state fairgrounds in Syracuse. A regional officer there said this was the “largest-ever competition at the state level.”
