Rayn Boncie was put in the foster care system at a young age and witnessed how children’s needs can fall through the cracks when another child arrived at the home.
Because of that, Boncie vowed to never allow a child to suffer because their family was in distress.
She started Things of My Very Own in Schenectady. Kids facing crisis can come in and get everything from clothing to toys.
Her organization exists solely on donations and grants. Securing funding hasn’t always been easy. The organization experienced a flood in their building last year. They pumped out the water and continued like nothing ever happened. That’s because taking a pause or stopping are words that are just not in Boncie’s vocabulary. There are still too many kids in need of help.
NewsChannel 13 has donated $1,300 to help with her organization.
Learn about how much greater the need is than Boncie ever anticipated when she started by watching the video of Elaine Houston’s story.
