Residents voting whether to dissolve village of Lake George

Voters in the village of Lake George will go to the polls next week to decide if they want to dissolve the village.

If they vote in favor of dissolution, the successful 120-year-old village would be history.

There are two public forums on Wednesday to discuss this: 2 p.m. at Lake George Town Hall, and 6 p.m. at the high school.

The idea to do away with the village, its government and its 36 employees came from former village employee and former village board member Doug Frost, who circulated a petition in May to get dissolution on the ballot. He says it’s all about growth, and it makes sense for the village and town to become one.

Meantime, Bob Blais, the village’s mayor of 52 years, says there are too many cons. That includes the fact only village residents can vote on this, not town residents.
