HOPKINTON, Mass. – Hopkinton High School has become the first in Massachusetts to drop its COVID mask mandate. It’s located 30 miles outside of Boston.
The school committee voted to make masks optional for vaccinated students, for the next three weeks. At the school, 98% are fully vaccinated.
Those who aren’t vaccinated are still expected to mask up.
During the trial, the district plans to collect and analyze data, including any rise in absenteeism due to COVID symptoms, or a rise in COVID cases.
If there is a spike, the school is able to restore the mask mandate at any point.
