SUNY stops withholding transcripts from indebted students

SUNY will no longer withhold transcripts from students who owe money in outstanding tuition balances.

Gov. Hochul says this is to eliminate the widespread practice across all colleges and universities in New York.

It was part of her State of the State address earlier this month.

As of 2020, about 19,000 students still owed money to their SUNY campus.

Now, students with an outstanding balance can receive their transcript, making it possible for them to re-enroll at a campus, transfer credits or complete their degree.
