The Congressional Medal of Honor was presented to the Albany native by President Obama seven years ago for Johnson’s heroism during World War I.
Johnson’s war heroics are well chronicled. He was a true American hero, risking his life to serve his country on the front lines to save the lives of fellow American soldiers.
It took many decades and many generations of advocacy to make sure Johnson’s legacy lives on.
On display in the rotunda of Albany City Hall is the medal, along with a World War I combat helmet and a bolo knife as well as several other artifacts commemorating Johnson’s military heroism.
