During Wednesday’s bail hearing for Kevin Monahan, the man accused of killing Kaylin Gillis, the prosecution told the judge that Monahan had an outburst at the DMV just last week. That office is steps away from the courtroom.
Monahan caused “quite the scene,” DMV employees said. However, they wouldn’t elaborate.
Monahan was mad for having to make an appointment, said the prosecution.
He even took photos of the workers in the building, and then stormed off.
The Washington County Clerk – who is in charge of the DMV – confirmed this information with NewsChannel 13. However, she couldn’t do an interview.
Prosecutors argued he has a hot temper and is impulsive – making him likely to flee.
However, Monahan’s attorney, Kurt Mausert, argued everyone’s gets upset at the DMV.
“The idea that he got in an argument at the DMV? Join the crowd. Line’s in back of me, you know,” said Mausert. “If that becomes a bail criteria, everybody that gets arrested in New York will go to jail.”
It should be noted, there are several signs clearly posted outside the DMV that say county business is conducted by appointment only, and that you must set up an appointment if you don’t have one.
