Westerlo man gets up to 32 years in prison for deadly DWI crash

A Westerlo man was sent to state prison on Monday for up to three decades in a deadly DWI crash. Besides the deadly crash, he also admitted to bail jumping.
Andrew Gibson, 44, apologized for his crimes on Monday. Neither family members of the victim nor the judge thought very much of that apology – most casting doubts about Gibson’s sincerity.
Gibson will spend 10 2/3 to 32 years in state prison. The sentences will be served consecutively.
Gibson was driving drunk in Westerlo in May 2021 when he slammed into a minivan being driven by Lisa Sperry, 55, a married mother of four children. Two of them were injured in the crash.
When Gibson was scheduled for the vehicular homicide last year, he jumped bail. He was eventually found, arrested, and convicted of that felony as well.
A pair of high-profile defendants were appearing before a judge in Albany County Court on Monday.
