Hochul reports drop in crime outside NYC
Violent crime outside of New York City is down 6% so far this year.
Gov. Kathy Hochul spoke about crime trends on Thursday morning at the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police’s Leadership Summit in Albany.
The governor said data reported by police departments and sheriff’s offices in 57 counties showed decreases in murder, rape, robbery and assault.
“We’ve turned the corner. When it comes down to our gun confiscations, they’re up tremendously from what they’ve been a couple years ago,” she said.
Hochul said she started a multi-state task force that is working to track down illegal guns.
“The numbers are phenomenal on how many we’ve confiscated, how many prosecutions there’s been. We’re making real progress,” she said.
