PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y. – A group of high school seniors went above and beyond on their last day of school. Several students left their graduation early in Long Island when their community needed them the most.
The group – part of the all-volunteer firefighting squad in this small town – was suddenly called into service!
A photo shows their graduation gowns, sneakers and dress shoes on the floor of the fire station.
Once in uniform, the teens raced to put out a garage fire.
The band teacher is also the assistant chief, and helped recruit many of the teens to join the fire department.Learn about what it was like for the teens to rush to change from graduation gear to fire gear by watching the video.
