Family speaks out after losing home in fire

A fire Saturday afternoon in Glenville burned a family's home down. The family is now left with nothing.

GLENVILLE, N.Y. (WNYT) – A house fire Saturday afternoon left a family with nothing.

The fire broke out at a mobile home park called Glenville Manor Estates.

Tabitha Rose said she and her whole family were inside of the home when the fire broke out.

“I smelt something weird,” Rose said.

Rose said the scent smelled like something burning and it just kept getting worse. That’s when Rose’s daughter, Mandy Sheldon, looked outside.

“Then I look out the window and I see flames,” Sheldon said. “So, I see something orange. I see smoke too. So, I saw the flames. It wasn’t even that bad until you open that door.”

The family had no idea that their home was on fire as they were in it.

Joseph Rivera is Sheldon’s son who was also inside the house at the time.

“When the fire started, my mom ran to her room. She said, fire, fire!” Rivera said.

Everyone was able to get out safely but now four victims are left with none of their belongings and nowhere to go.

“We got nothing out of our house,” Rose said. “We’ve been living off donations.”

The family is currently staying at a local motel and asking for the public’s help. They are encouraging anyone who can help them to donate to their GoFundMe page or Amazon Gift List that they set up.
