Malta contractor pleads guilty to grand larceny

A Malta contractor has admitted to taking money from a client and not doing the work.

Dakota Smith, who owns DAS Builders & Remodeling LLC, is accused of entering into an agreement with a Clifton Park resident to complete a home renovation project. He took a $18,000 deposit and failed to start the work or purchase the necessary materials for the project, State Police said.

Smith was arrested in September 2023.

He pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court to grand larceny on Sept. 5. Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 7.

Smith has committed similar crimes across the Capital Region. In July, he pleaded guilty in Greene County to taking more than $70k from people for contracting jobs and not doing the work.

Sentencing in that case is scheduled for Oct. 8.
