Pattersonville farmer says growing season was nearly perfect

It's been a near-perfect growing season, according to the owner of Dellavale Farm in Pattersonville.

It’s been a near-perfect growing season, according to the owner of Dellavale Farm in Pattersonville.

Tom Nelson told NewsChannel 13 he only had a few bumps in the road.

The weather was great all the way through harvesting time at the beginning of the month, he said.

They finished chopping the corn and harvesting the hay a few weeks ago. Now, Nelson’s crew is doing what they call a “cover crop” to protect the soil for next growing season.

There’s also a pumpkin patch that’s open on weekends.

It’s been tough the last two years to grow pumpkins, corn and hay, Nelson said. First, there was too much rain and then an early frost that stunted the growing season. He said the weather now is perfect, and he’d like to see a carbon copy next year.
