Albany Mexican restaurant teaches kids about ‘Day of the Dead’

El Loco Mexican Cafe in Albany held a special event for Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

El Loco Mexican Cafe in Albany opened its doors to students to learn about the tradition of Dia de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead.

Students from Castle Island Bilingual Montessori in Albany decorated sugar skulls and ate chalupas together.

El Loco owner Patrick Noonan says the ofrenda, or the offering at their altar for the holiday, reflects the appreciation he has for his 41 years in business here.

“It means a lot more to us each and every year as it grows, because it means that we’ve been able to stay in business number one, and be able to kind of engage with our customers over the last 41 years,” said Noonan.

The Day of the Dead will be celebrated Nov. 1 to Nov. 2 this year.
