Guilderland Public Library is celebrating the completion of its $9 million building project.
A ribbon cutting was held Friday.
The project was approved by voters in 2019. It updated and modernized the 1992 structure, added a new 6,500 square foot children’s area, and expanded the parking lot.
"We have 20% more usable floor space for you now, at a 20% lower utility cost going forward," said Library Director Tim Wiles.
The library shut down to public browsing in March 2020 due to COVID. However, it’s offered some limited and curbside services since then.
Library officials say construction is complete about 10 months earlier than expected, and saved at least $250,000.
The library will reopen for in-person browsing on Monday, September 27 or Tuesday, September 28, depending on when they get their Certificate of Occupancy. Masks are required, regardless of your vaccination status.
