New Jersey pair fined for killing deer in Greene County home’s driveway
Two New Jersey residents have admitted to shooting and killing a deer in the driveway of a Greene County home.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Officers responded to a homeowner’s complaint in the town of Lexington in November 2023. The Ring camera captured a deer being shot and collapsing in his driveway, the resident said. The video showed two people back a black pickup truck into the driveway before they finished killing the animal, loaded it into the truck and drove off, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.
The truck was traced to a New Jersey resident. On the opening day of hunting season, officers found the suspect’s vehicle parked on the roadway of a public hunting property in Lexington. They followed the vehicle back to a nearby hunting camp and identified the other suspect.
They were charged with possessing a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, taking a deer from a public roadway, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, illegally killing a white-tailed deer, and failing to properly tag the deer. They also had an untagged seven-point buck at their hunting camp, investigators said, which resulted in another charge.
Both pleaded guilty on Nov. 22 in Lexington Town Court and paid $2,500 fines.
