Careers in cybersecurity expected to grow

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in cybersecurity will grow 30% in the next eight years.

In the Capital Region, there are community colleges and four-year-colleges training students for the growing industry. UAlbany and SUNY Poly have majors in cybersecurity and emergency preparedness, where students learn how to protect computer systems against hacking and ransomware.

"We are looking for students who are curious and problem solvers because cybersecurity is a very dynamic field that keeps changing, and we see different types of problems," said Benjamin Yankson of UAlbany.

Questar BOCES is also starting a new program with UAlbany to encourage high school seniors to go into emergency preparedness and cybersecurity.
