Friday fish fries are back now that Lent has officially started. While fried fish can be tasty, it’s important not to eat too much.

A registered dietitian for Cleveland Clinic explains when we fry something, whether it’s fish or chicken or whatever it may be, a lot of times those oils are not heart healthy, they’re saturated fats.

She says consider eating baked, broiled or grilled fish instead, that way it’s not being cooked in oil, and what happens is the breading actually absorbs all those fats and so not only are you getting more calories from the breading itself but you’re also getting all of those unhealthy fats.

She also added, for those planning to cook fish at home, try using an air fryer. It will give you that crispy texture without the added oils.
