It’s a Capital Region first this year in the Rensselaer County community of Schaghticoke.

It’s called a "Field of Honor" and it will cover the Hoosic Valley football field in more than 1,000 American flags.

Each 3×5 ft. flag will represent a current or veteran military member, and each will have information about their service.

The flags are sold for $40 each and all proceeds go to Patriot Flight to pay for area veterans to fly to Washington to visit the war memorials.

The idea is to create a sea of red, white and blue as a way to honor those who wore the uniform.

The public is invited to check out the flags beginning Friday, May 27.

Hear what area veterans are saying about the display, and why the high schoolers say it was so important to put up by watching the video of Mark Mulholland’s story.
