A former Rensselaer County resident will spend at least six years in prison in California, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Dennis LePage was sentenced Tuesday in San Diego, after admitting he strangled 28-year-old Alvaro Marquez Espeleta in 1975, when both men were serving in the Navy.

LePage violated a restraining order in Massachusetts in 2010, so his fingerprints were on file.

In 2019, investigators matched LePage’s fingerprints to those from the murder scene, and he was arrested in Troy in January 2020.
