Hochul increases starting pay for state lifeguards

Gov. Hochul is hoping to combat a lifeguard shortage here in New York with pay increases for state lifeguards.

Hochul says starting pay rates for lifeguards upstate will increase 34%, to $20 per hour, and 21% downstate, to $22 per hour.

Those raises go into effect immediately.
