Housatonic Water Works Co. receives warning about compound in drinking water
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has a warning for the Housatonic Water Works Co. in Great Barrington.
NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report the state told the company it has less than 30 days to submit a proposal to reduce levels of a disinfectant byproduct in its drinking water. The byproduct, known as haloacetic acid, has been linked to cancer.
Failure to meet the deadline could result in various penalties. The company says it plans to fix the problem.
