A kayaker is hospitalized after being rescued from a pond in Berkshire County.

The Richmond fire chief tells NewsChannel 13 the call came in around 7 a.m. Thursday.

The chief says the man had a life jacket on and was not submerged, but did not have a wetsuit on.

Crews had to break the ice to get the boats in the water.

It took rescuers more than a half-hour to get the man out of the water.

He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center, where his condition is not known.
