A man in Latham is facing a number of charges after a shots-fired incident.

Colonie police were called to the Woodlands Apartments in Latham early Thursday morning. A caller had reported damage to the inside of an apartment from a bullet.

Police say the bullet appeared to have entered the caller’s apartment from a neighbor’s.

No one was injured.

Officers found that around 1 a.m. Thursday, 51-year-old Claude Weinstein was handling a legally owned Windham AR-15 rifle. Police say Weinstein didn’t mean to fire it, and didn’t let anyone know about it after it happened.

They also found him with an ArmaLite AR-10 rifle. Police say that weapon had characteristics making it illegal to possess in New York.

Weinstein was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
