Legislation signed to end school lunch ‘meal shaming’ for unpaid fees

School districts in New York state can no longer file lawsuits against parents for unpaid meal fees.

Gov. Cuomo signed the legislation Thursday to end what is known as "meal shaming."

He says taking parents to court for unpaid school meals runs counter to a school’s fundamental mission to ensure the well-being of every student.
