National Grid said as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 97% of Eastern New York customers have their power back after heavy rain and strong winds Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
National Grid spokesman Patrick Stella says they had upwards of 50 to 60 mile an hour wind gusts. About 43,000 National Grid customers were left in the dark.
The remaining outages — mostly in Rensselaer, Schenectady and Schoharie counties — should be fixed by the end of the day Tuesday, with some isolated and single customer outages being restored early on Wednesday.
