Niskayuna restaurant owner arrested after illegal employee treatment

A restaurant owner in Niskayuna has been indicted on charges of labor trafficking and falsifying business records.
Piyamas Demasi, 45, owns Thai Thai Bistro and Karma Bistro in Niskayuna.
She is accused of hiring a woman from Thailand to work in the kitchen and paying her in cash.
Police say Demasi then asked the woman to pay for all costs to get her a visa and a green-card, and commit to working for her for at least two years after the process was complete, which is illegal.
Prosecutors also say Demasi asked for an additional $10,000 for the visa application.
A grand jury indicted her in a 13 count indictment.
