New Yorkers will be able to mark "X" as their gender on driver licenses, learner’s permits, or a non-driver ID cards.

Gov. Hochul says the change is part of the "Gender Recognition Act," which goes into effect on June 24.

The act provides more protection for transgender and non-binary New Yorkers. It also makes it easier to change names and genders on birth certificates.
