PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The federal government has fined a Berkshire County waste-to-energy facility, saying workers breathed in smoke containing arsenic, cadmium and lead.

NewsChannel 13’s media partners at the Berkshire Eagle report OSHA has ordered Community Eco Power LLC of Pittsfield to respond by April 4 to violations against the plant.

The plant faces $26,000 in penalties.

The company, which filed for bankruptcy protection, is contesting the fines.
