Pedestrian struck and killed by pickup truck in Latham

LATHAM – Colonie police are investigating the death of a pedestrian that was hit by a pickup truck.

Randall Schanz, 32, from Latham was reportedly walking along the southbound ramp of Loudon Road up to the Latham Traffic Circle.

Police tell NewsChannel 13 a 28-year-old from Watervliet was traveling in the same direction when he hit Schanz. The driver immediately stopped and called 911. He is fully cooperating with police. He was not injured in the crash.

Colonie police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.

The ramp was closed down for approximately two hours while investigators were on the scene.
