GUILDERLAND – As many as 18 cars were destroyed or damaged Tuesday night when a raging fire swept through a parking garage in the Aspen Court area of the Woodlake apartment complex in Guilderland.
There are Jeeps, Mercedes, Toyotas, Hondas, and one Ford Mustang that are now nothing more than burned out metal shells.
The fire broke out around 9 p.m. in Guilderland Tuesday night. The heat was so intense, it melted the paint and the plastic taillights of cars that were left in the parking area near the garage.
When crews from the Guilderland Fire Department got to the scene, many of the residents were evacuated for fear that the fire could spread.
Thankfully, it didn’t because firefighters did a brilliant job dousing the flames, and eliminating the danger.
The cause is still under investigation. Fire investigators have been taking a close look at the enclosed laundry room that’s part of the outdoor garage.
Some mailboxes have also been burned.
For many residents of Woodlake, Wednesday was a day to contact their insurance companies, and find alternate transportation to get to work.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
