Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin’s budget proposal includes a 10% property tax rate reduction. It’s the fourth cut in a row for county residents in the past four years, and the largest tax rate reduction in the county’s history.
"For 2022, today, I can announce we are proposing a 10% reduction in the average tax rate. I can also announce the proposed 10% property tax rate reduction for 2022 is built on a foundation of good judgment, effective decisions and new efficiencies employed by the county during the past three years," said McLaughlin.
He added that even with the tax cuts, the county has made major investments in its roads, paving over 165 miles of the county road system.
