Schenectady preschoolers help replant trees lost to 2020 storm

SCHENECTADY – National Grid has been working with local communities to help replace some trees lost during a big derecho windstorm in 2020.

With the help of some preschoolers, trees were planted in Schenectady’s Central Park on Tuesday.

"I think this is really important for kids, because it’s really planting a seed at a young age to understand about the importance of trees and the environment," said Angela Tompkins, with Cornell Cooperative Extension.

National Grid’s Capital Tree Program is providing $240,000 to Schenectady, Rensselaer and Albany counties.
