People from across the Capital Region came out for a shoe drive to benefit Afghanistan refugees.
This is a national initiative to collect shoes to support the 65,000 people who evacuated from Afghanistan since the Taliban gained control in the country.
The event was held at the Mechanicville Library on Sunday.
Joann Tierney-Daniels helped organize the event. She said people in Mechanicville and across the Capital Region have even left their phone numbers to continue to help in the future.
"My understanding is that the first 100 families will be populating here within the next week or two, and then we’ll have a better assessment," she said. "I think people feel worthwhile donating, and it adds value to their life while adding value to others, and that’s exactly why we do it."
Anyone who is looking to help and donate can reach out to the Mechanicville Library for more information.
