The town of Hunter held a meeting on problems with the Kaaterskill Falls area Monday night.
Many people have been visiting the Kaaterskill Falls and Clove area during the pandemic, and leaving behind trash. They are also clogging up the road where cars are not supposed to park.
NewsChannel 13 investigated the problem over the weekend.
"Because it’s been so hot this summer, and because of social media, these swimming holes have blown up, and there are a lot of tourists coming in. Quite frankly, a number of them don’t have the infrastructure to handle as many people that are coming," said Michelle Hinchey, candidate for New York State Senate.
"We are seeing hundreds of people a day. Today [Monday] was 93 degrees and even at 5:30 p.m. there were still double-parked cars on the side of a very dangerous road," she added.
The town is considering closing down parts of the area. Right now, the town has not made any decisions.
NewsChannel 13 will continue to provide updates as soon as they become available.
