Albany felon gets 4 1/2 years in prison for gun possession
An Albany man was sentenced Monday to more than four years in prison – 55 months – for having a gun as a convicted felon.
Charles E. Williams, 35, was arrested on Nov. 18, 2021 at a hotel in Albany County in connection with a kidnapping. Investigators found a .357-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver in his room.
Williams is prohibited under federal law from possessing a gun due to a prior felony conviction in New York for first-degree assault, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office said.
Since this crime, prosecutors said he has been convicted of additional felonies for kidnapping, robbery, assault and witness intimidation charges in Albany and Rensselaer counties. He also faces additional armed robbery charges in Albany County.
Williams also received three years of supervised release.
