Kindlon sworn-in as Albany County’s first new D.A. in 20 years
Albany County swore in its first new district attorney in 20 years on Monday.
Democrat Lee Kindlon won nearly 55% of the vote to defeat incumbent David Soares and Republican candidate Ralph Ambrosio, a former state police trooper, assistant district attorney and assistant attorney general
Soares was expected to cruise to a sixth term, but then faced an uphill climb amid news he used grant funds to give himself more than $20,000 in bonuses. Soares later gave the money back.
Kindlon then beat Soares in the primary, and Soares tried to keep going as a write-in candidate.
