A Watervliet man is accused of assaulting a toddler.

Jayvion A. Smith, 20, was watching the child on May 17 and left a bruise while after disciplining the toddler, State Police said.

The child was evaluated and is expected to recover.

Smith was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
